Hello, my dear friends, while the blog is still under construction (although, we’re getting close), I wanted to post a quick update. With working a full-time job, plus attending three conferences and moving in the spring, life has been busy and will continue to be so. My time is filling up, but there is still space for the blog and I plan to keep moving it forward.
It’s under construction, what’s up with that? It’s under construction because there are a few things that I need to wrap up before making it offish. What I didn’t want to do was keep waiting until I had everything perfect before I started posting, because this is never going to be perfect. And that’s totally fine. Instead of holding back until whenever I wanted to give it a go. Someday, I’ll quietly remove the under-construction stuff and you won’t even notice. Unless you want to join me for a launch party, then we will share cupcakes and mimosas.
So what is the plan with The Museum Girl? This blog is to be less of a commentary on to the field and more of a lifestyle and survival guide for museum professionals. I care deeply about the many issues affecting our field and world in general right now, however, there are many people out there who are highly engaged in these areas and are already doing a fantastic job talking about them. Instead of stepping into those conversations, my focus is to talk about the day-to-day work that we face on the job. Occasionally, I will cover those topics, but it will be in the context of supporting you the museum professional.
Personally, I find myself googling a ton of stuff about how to do different parts of a museum job and get frustrated when I can’t find something. I want my blog to be a resource to you for those moments so that eventually something will pop up when you google it. Since I am a data point of one, I know what I want to know. However, I want to know what you want to know too. What do you find yourself googling on the job? And what do you not find answers to? Please share in the comments below!

Hi!
I am a young museum professional writing my bachelor thesis in museum studies in Berlin. Two months ago, I decided to start a blog about the museum work and I am still thinking about a good concept. It takes so much of my time!
our struggle with your full-time job. It must be hard.
Your blog inspires me a lot for mine and I am looking forward to reading more of your posts! During those two months of experimenting on IG and stalking other museum bloggers, I decided to specialize me into the museum visitors. Is it a good idea?
Thank you for being so inspiring and putting so much work into your blog, you are helping museum workers. I’ll feature you on Instagram or on my blog – every museum workers need to know about The museum girl.

Thank you so much for your kind note! And I agree that blogs are a lot of work, but worth it in the end. I think your blog topic is a GREAT idea. It is so important. Visitors are so essential to museums and are a core part of all missions. Since you are stalking other blogs, and you might already know of this one, but I recommend checking out: https://www.colleendilen.com/. There’s so much great data on museum visitors on there that you might find interesting. I’m excited for you and your blog adventures!
Let’s stay in touch! I’d be happy to reciprocate and feature you on my blog or IG sometime too!
